Let God fight your battles

“The Lord will fight for you while you keep silent” (Exodus 14:14)

How blessed you are to have God fight your battles. When God is your defender, you don’t have to argue back, fight back, yell back, or talk back to others.

You don’t need to plan out your arguments to justify your actions. God does not need to use your tongue as His weapon of warfare. Quietness of heart, mind, spirit, and voice will keep you in a place of great peace,

You do not need to defend yourself or justify any of your actions if you are walking in obedience to what God has asked you to do. If your actions are based upon God’s calling in your life, it is justification enough. If what you do is motivated by love, this is reason enough.

Psalm 59 is David’s prayer to God when he faced imminent death at the hands of Saul, Who had sent men to watch David’s house to kill him:

 1 Deliver me from my enemies, O God;
be my fortress against those who are attacking me.
2 Deliver me from evildoers
and save me from those who are after my blood.

 3 See how they lie in wait for me!
Fierce men conspire against me
for no offense or sin of mine, LORD.
4 I have done no wrong, yet they are ready to attack me.
Arise to help me; look on my plight!
5 You, LORD God Almighty,
you who are the God of Israel,
rouse yourself to punish all the nations;
show no mercy to wicked traitors.[c]

 6 They return at evening,
snarling like dogs,
and prowl about the city.
7 See what they spew from their mouths—
the words from their lips are sharp as swords,
and they think, “Who can hear us?”
8 But you laugh at them, LORD;
you scoff at all those nations.

 9 You are my strength, I watch for you;
you, God, are my fortress,
10 my God on whom I can rely.

   God will go before me
and will let me gloat over those who slander me.
11 But do not kill them, Lord our shield,[d]
or my people will forget.
In your might uproot them
and bring them down.
12 For the sins of their mouths,
for the words of their lips,
let them be caught in their pride.
For the curses and lies they utter,
13 consume them in your wrath,
consume them till they are no more.
Then it will be known to the ends of the earth
that God rules over Jacob.

 14 They return at evening,
snarling like dogs,
and prowl about the city.
15 They wander about for food
and howl if not satisfied.
16 But I will sing of your strength,
in the morning I will sing of your love;
for you are my fortress,
my refuge in times of trouble.

 17 You are my strength, I sing praise to you;
you, God, are my fortress,
my God on whom I can rely.

  1. “If what you do is motivated by love, this is reason enough.” The biggest oppositions I have faced have been those times when I was acting out of Love for another, this is the single most threat to my enemy. This is the elemental time to step aside and let God fight the battle for you,no love can be felt in war, but in perfect peace love is poured out as an offering for many..

  5. Thanks Noel! I thought about an old song that says, “Victory, victory shall be mine. If I hold my peace and let the Lord fight my battles, victory, victory shall be mine! It is a comfort to know, that though my enemy seeks to destroy me, there is no need for me to plan out an offensive attack, because the Lord will fight for me! What an encouraging word! Thank you for this post–I’m getting better at catching myself, when I start defending myself (usually about something pointless); it’s much better to remember that Jesus is my Defender, as well as all the rest of His job description. It’s better to let Him do the fighting–because HE ALWAYS WINS! God bless you, and thanks for following my blog–hope you’ll enjoy most of what you read!

    1. Hey Caddo, would not it be neat if we repeat Hebrews 13:6 (“… The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me”), every time we face a battle. It seems we need to take a page out of Daniel’s book. He never flinched when his adversaries threw him in the den of lions.

Something is afoot in these days in March 2013; I keep being drawn to verses in the bible from 13 to 22nd. Something is stirring on the 13th to the 22nd of this Miracle March 2013!   26. When looking at David’s life, we see he underwent much difficulty, tests And trials, before he could enter into his kingly office. Yet in all these difficulties, he regularly,encouraged himself in the Lord His God. The Lord often came through for him, giving him the ability to overcome, his enemies.

    Although he had often messed up, he had always been quick to repent. He could have harmed his forerunner, in more than one occasion; yet he chose, rather to show forgiveness, grace and mercy. He had chance to injure Saul, yet chose rather to show mercy.

    At one time his own followers wanted to stone him, when their families, wives, children, property were kidnapped, lost, and destroyed. He was at a all time low, yet he found consolation in his Lord’s Presence, encouraging himself in the Lord.

    When one of his men wanted to harm his predecessor; David refused, and said he does not want to touch, harm God’s anointed leader. Instead he showed Saul, mercy, forging him of all the hurt, caused through Saul’s chasing him.

    Even so Christ came, became sin for us, died in our place as our Sacrificial Lamb. Our Lord could have called legions of angels, who would fight for Him. They would be well ready to destroy, mankind, Yet on the cross our Lord cried aloud; saying; “Father forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” He chose, rather to forgive, love and not destroy all of mankind. Such is His Love for,and toward us, through His Holy Name.

  28. I’m a skeptic, Noel. Let God fight my battles, Let Go, let God. Why then, am I bankrupt and my husband out of work for 3 1/2 YEARS? Did He lose the battle? There has to be some 50:50. I’m lost and confused.

    1. Hello Annie! I have heard those words before. I know it is difficult to believe God when there is no silver line in your dark cloud. However, let me assure you that God has a great plan for all of us. He does not want to see any of His children suffer. He is always in our midst waiting with outstretched hands. But, we are like the prodigal son who had diverted from the path his father charted for him.

      Jesus said, “Behold! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends” Revelation 3:20).

      Believe me Annie, God is not a myth. He answers prayers, but you have to believe and trust Him. It is not too late to give Him a try. I did on my sick bed. The Psalmist said: “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires. Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, (Cloth yourself in His armor and leave the rest to Him) and he will help you. He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn, and the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun” (Psalm 37:4-6).

      1. Noel, it is hard, if not impossible, to trust when one feels forsaken. “But, we are like the prodigal son who had diverted from the path his father charted for him” How could I have diverted from a path that I was unaware of?

        I have repeatedly looked for the silver lining to the cloud because I’ve heard frequently that it is theorem but I never find it and I’ve prayed a lot to no avail.

  29. Annie, I have had similar concerns in the past but when I looked at Daniel’s, and David’s stories and Job’s and Jacob’s struggles they give me hope. Sometimes our struggles are meant to strengthen. In 2nd Corinthians 12:8-9, apostle Paul talked about the thorn in his flesh. He said, “Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:8-9).

God asks us Noel who will contend with Him against Evil and we do so by sharing His Truth, yes those who have itching ears will reject it and also often show rudeness or ignore us but as you shared we don’t use the same weapons as they do but nor do we accept their rudeness as OK or the evil they do to us. Jesus got the whip out and called those who did evil a brood of vipers, yes very much to the point, He had righteous anger and so did Paul when he rebuked the Childish Christians.

    Silence is not always golden it can harbor bitterness and resentment and lead to seeking revenge. God tells us as we see confirmed below that we are to rebuke those who do wrong to us but we forgive them too when they say sorry, but many don’t say sorry instead they justify their wrong actions and even blame those who they have wronged, such is the Carnal flesh and it is why we have to put it to death by The Spirit (Romans 8 :12-15 Romans 6 -Colossians 3:4-6 -Galatians 5:24 -26) as we aim to be perfected in Love, as we also see confirmed in the Scriptures. ( Matthew 5:48 -Hebrews 6:1 -Philippians 3:14-16 -2Timithy 3:17-1 John 4:17-19 -1John 4:16-17 -2Corinthians 13:11)

    Luke 17:3-5 Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him and if he repent, forgive him.

    James 5:19-20 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

    2 Timothy 4:2-3 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
