A Prayer of Freedom


Happy 4th!

Dear Lord,

There is no greater feeling of liberation than to experience this freedom from sin and death that you have provided for me through Jesus Christ. Today my heart and my soul are free to praise you. For this, I am very thankful.

On this Independence Day I am reminded of all those who have sacrificed for my freedom, following the example of your Son, Jesus Christ. Let me not take my freedom, both physical and spiritual, for granted. May I always remember that my freedom was purchased with a very high price. My freedom cost others their very lives.

Lord, today, bless those who have served and continue to give their lives for my freedom. With favor and bounty meet their needs and watch over their families.

Help me to live my life, in a way, that glorifies you, Lord. Give me the strength to be a blessing in someone else‘s life today, and grant me the opportunity to lead others into the freedom that can be found in knowing Christ.
Amen

  4. As a Christian I found the sentiments expressed disturbing as 1 John 5 : 17 -19 explains clearly that this world (its political systems opposed to Gods Kingdom and principles) is passing away…; this prayer extends an idea that God supports one country over another.
    Gods kingdom is the only answer and the sacrifices made by Humanity are not made to free the majority because they perpetuate a system that opposes gods values.
    As Christians our freedom COST ONE LIFE! All Christians are free if they remain separate from the World under the control of the ‘Wicked One’.
    Human sacrifice is not required and though you live in country blessed with a form of freedom ask yourself did God or Jesus say protect it at all cost?
    To fellow Christians all I would like to remind them is our freedom comes through the sacrifice of Christ no matter where we are the in world. Our salvation does not depend on our soldiers or taking up arms to defend that freedom – John 3 : 16 we have to exercise faith.

      I have read your comment to Noel. As having known Noel for many years, I am honored to say, he would never lead anyone astray or go against God in any form or fashion. Also in his prayer the freedom he received from Christ and the one he received from those who have fought and died for this country, he makes a great distinction. Giving thanks to both God and man.

      “When did God or Jesus say at all cost?” Let us go to Saul. When Saul went into battle did not God tell him to kill, every man, woman, child, and animal? As he did not do this, Saul was therefore dethroned and him and Jonathan were both killed. Even when David and Joshua went into battle, it was at “all cost.” It was at all cost for Israel.

      Now does God prefer one nation over the other. Yes. It is Israel. God said in the Bible, “Though all nations are under me, Israel is mine.” The Bible tells us, “He rules from Zion.”

      Just because Noel honored “man” here does not mean that he did not give to God the highest of honor. In fact let us look at, “Did God ever honor man?” Abraham God made the father of many nations. Moses God said, “There would never be another prophet like him.” David, He called “a man after his own heart.” Job, “His good and faithful servant.” God is always to be given the most highest of honor, but that does not mean “man” deserves no honor at all does it? If God Himself can honor man, why can’t we? After all we are created in His image and likeness. It is called kindness.

      I had an uncle who laid in a foxhole in WW11 for two weeks with a German tank over the top of him. That is what saved his life and he could see the German’s feet as they walked around the tank. My uncle’s feet froze as it was in the dead of winter. He suffered for the rest of his life with those feet. Do I thank him for doing that for me? You bet I do. Do I praise and give God all the glory that he did not die and was able to come home to us. You bet I do.

    2. Mr. Trotter, please forgive me for not responding to your comment sooner. To be honest, I did not realize it was there until I read SR’s comment. That said, let me take this opportunity to thank you for stopping and commenting. God loves you, and I do too.

      Nonetheless, I think you have misinterpreted the prayer. However, I am not going to sit here and split hairs with you. Aside minor differences, we are on the same page.

  5. I guess I am “in my zone” as you always say. 🙂 I want to add one other thought I had. God commands us to “honor our father and mother.” To me that right there says it all. You are the awesome one, my friend. God Bless, SR
