There is nogreaterfeeling of liberation than to experiencethisfreedom from sinanddeaththatyouhaveprovidedfor me through Jesus Christ. Today my heartand my soul are free to praiseyou. Forthis, I am verythankful.
On this Independence Day I am reminded of all thosewhohavesacrificedfor my freedom, followingtheexample of your Son, Jesus Christ. Let me not take my freedom, bothphysicalandspiritual, forgranted. May I alwaysrememberthat my freedomwaspurchased with a veryhighprice. My freedomcost others their verylives.
Lord, today, blessthosewhohaveservedandcontinue to give their livesfor my freedom. With favorandbountymeet their needsandwatch over their families.
Help me to live my life, in a way, thatglorifiesyou, Lord. Give me thestrength to be a blessing in someone else‘s lifetoday, andgrant me theopportunity to lead others into thefreedom that can be found in knowing Christ. Amen
Thatone‘s troubles multiply dailyandthelist of unansweredprayerskeepsgrowing by theminute, are not proofthat God is dead–or He is a myth–or He does not care–or He is not listening. If anything, suchoccurrences could mean God’s timing and your timing are not in sync, or, perhapsyou may havebeentoononchalant in making your requests. Furthermore, thethornyouseek to removemaybethelink that keepsthechaintogether. In thatcase, God grace is sufficientforyou.
Weknow with greatcertaintyboth from our ownexperiencesand James’ writing in thebook of thesamenamethatthenonchalantprayerrequestsdo not avail much: But, as James rightlyputsit: “.. Theeffective, ferventprayer of a righteousman avails much” (James 5:16). But James did not stopthere. In verses 17-18 He called into remembrance Elijah’s petitionfordroughtandrain through ferventprayer.
Less anyone thinks Elijah wassomekind of a supernaturalbeing, here is what James says: “Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, andheprayedearnestlythatit would not rain, anditdid not rain on thelandfor three yearsand six months. Andheprayedagain, andtheheavengaverain, andtheearthproduced its fruit,” (James 5:16-18).
So, contrary to atheisticthinking, God is alive. He is not a myth. Hecares, He listens, and He answers prayers. However, sometimes God’s peoplehave to fightfor their blessing like Jacob did. Othertimesittakespatienceandfaith like Job’s.
Of course God tests His chosen! There is a mountain of Biblical evidence that God often useshardship to test His chosen. Moreover, quiteoftenthosetestsresemblethetrialsandtribulationthedevilplace upon you.
So, aside from thehardships that comenaturally on your Christian journey, there are alsomore than a fewdifficultsituationsthat God uses to test your commitmentand resiliency. Therefore, as younavigatethisnarrowpath, it is of paramountimportancethatyouunderstandthat not everytrialyouface is design to destroyyou. The Bible says, ..”the Lord disciplinesthoseheloves, andhepunisheseach one heaccepts as his child.” (Hebrews 12:6).
Forexample, Job 1: 1-3 states, “There oncewas a mannamed Job, wholived in theland of Uz. Hewas blameless—a man of completeintegrity. Hefeared God andstayedaway from evil. Hehad seven sonsand three daughters. Heowned 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 500 teams of oxen, and 500 femaledonkeys. Healsohadmanyservants. Hewas, in fact, therichestperson in thatentirearea.”
Stillyet, God allows Satan to visitterribletrials upon Job to test him. And in a shortperiod, Job lostall his livestock. Then a desertwindblows down his house, killingall of his ten children. Andwhen Job did not falter, Satan doubledownandafflicts him with painfulsoresall over his body. Unable to help her husband, Job’s wifeurges him to curse God anddie. However, Job staystrue to his commitment to God.
And in theend, “theLORDrestored Job’s losseswhenheprayedfor his friends. IndeedtheLORDgave Job twice as much as hehad before” ( Job 42:10)…Helivedforanother 140 years.
So, the Romans nailed Jesus to thecrossandwaited until He wasdead. (they thought that was the end of the trouble maker) Thentheyhandedthebody over to Joseph, a richman from Arimathea. Joseph wrappedthebody in a longsheetandplacedit in his personaltomb which wascarved out of a largerock. Hethenrolled a greatstone across theentrance.
The Bible says on thenextday, (the Sabbath), theleadingpriestsand Pharisees went to see Pilate. Theytold him, “Sir, werememberwhatthatdeceiveroncesaidwhilehewasstillalive: ‘After three days I will rise from thedead.’ Sowe are requestingthatyou seal thetomb until thethirdday. This will prevent his disciples from comingandstealing his bodyandthentell everyone hewasraised from thedead! Pilate replied, “Take guardsandsecureitthebestyou can.” Sothey sealed thetomband posted guards to protectit.
But something spectacular would happened on Sunday morning. The Bible says, early on Sunday morning, as a newdaywasdawning, Mary Magdalene andtheother Mary wentout to visitthetomb.
O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?
For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Suddenly there was a greatearthquakeand an angelcamedown from heaven, rolledthestoneaside, andsat on it. Theguardsshook with fearwhentheysaw him, andtheyfell into a deadfaint.
Thentheangelspoke to thewomen. “Don’t be afraid!” hesaid. “I knowyou are lookingfor Jesus, whowascrucified. He is not here!He is risen from thedead, just as He said would happen. Come, seewhere his bodywaslying. Andnow, goquicklyandtell his disciplesthathe has risen from thedead, and He is goingahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there. Rememberwhat I havetoldyou.”
Thewomenran from thetomb quickly. They were frightenedbutalsofilled with greatjoy. Theyrushed to givethedisciplestheangel’s message. And as theywent, Jesus met them andgreeted them. Andtheyran to Him, grasped His feet, andworshiped Him. Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t be afraid! Gotell my brothers to leavefor Galilee, andthey will see me there.”
