Don’t allow anything to distract you from the gracious presence of Jesus Christ
Everything else can wait when you are in the presence of Jesus Christ is the essence of the story about Martha and Mary found in (#Luke 10:38-42), It is both intriguing and instructive. I think every Christian should take note. Because so many of us are like Martha and so few of us is like Mary.
This is how the author begins: Jesus and his disciples were out and about one day. They entered a village, and a woman named Martha received them into her home. Martha had a sister called Mary. Both women were excited to have Jesus in their house.
Martha was a kind woman. She liked to serve others. So, it was not a surprise that after she welcomed Jesus and his disciples, she went straight to the kitchen to prepare a meal. Mary who always help her sister in the kitchen went and sat at Jesus’ feet and listened to his words.
Meanwhile, Martha was distracted and overwhelmed by all the work she had to do in the kitchen. She approached Jesus and asked him if it did not bother him that Mary had left her to do all the work in the kitchen. But, instead of instructing Mary to help her sister, Jesus scolded Martha. Martha! Martha! He said! You are worried about many things. But only one thing is needed. And Mary has chosen that right path, and it shall not be taken away from her.
It seems to me, like many of us, the one thing Martha needed was to receive the gracious presence of Jesus Christ and listen to his words. Because in the end, it does not matter who you are or what you do. If you do not have Christ, you have nothing.
Hence, everything else can wait when you are in the presence of Jesus Christ.
