So, the Romans nailed Jesus to thecrossandwaited until He wasdead. (they thought that was the end of the trouble maker) Thentheyhandedthebody over to Joseph, a richman from Arimathea. Joseph wrappedthebody in a longsheetandplacedit in his personaltomb which wascarved out of a largerock. Hethenrolled a greatstone across theentrance.
The Bible says on thenextday, (the Sabbath), theleadingpriestsand Pharisees went to see Pilate. Theytold him, “Sir, werememberwhatthatdeceiveroncesaidwhilehewasstillalive: ‘After three days I will rise from thedead.’ Sowe are requestingthatyou seal thetomb until thethirdday. This will prevent his disciples from comingandstealing his bodyandthentell everyone hewasraised from thedead! Pilate replied, “Take guardsandsecureitthebestyou can.” Sothey sealed thetomband posted guards to protectit.
But something spectacular would happened on Sunday morning. The Bible says, early on Sunday morning, as a newdaywasdawning, Mary Magdalene andtheother Mary wentout to visitthetomb.
O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?
For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Suddenly there was a greatearthquakeand an angelcamedown from heaven, rolledthestoneaside, andsat on it. Theguardsshook with fearwhentheysaw him, andtheyfell into a deadfaint.
Thentheangelspoke to thewomen. “Don’t be afraid!” hesaid. “I knowyou are lookingfor Jesus, whowascrucified. He is not here!He is risen from thedead, just as He said would happen. Come, seewhere his bodywaslying. Andnow, goquicklyandtell his disciplesthathe has risen from thedead, and He is goingahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there. Rememberwhat I havetoldyou.”
Thewomenran from thetomb quickly. They were frightenedbutalsofilled with greatjoy. Theyrushed to givethedisciplestheangel’s message. And as theywent, Jesus met them andgreeted them. Andtheyran to Him, grasped His feet, andworshiped Him. Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t be afraid! Gotell my brothers to leavefor Galilee, andthey will see me there.”

Itwasonly one week before thehistoric Passover andthecity of Jerusalem wascrowded with pilgrimswhohadcometherefortheannual Passover celebration.
Jesus and His disciples would sooncome to Jerusalem to takepart in thefestivities. Theyhadbeentravellingformonths; connecting with thetownsandvillages of Palestine. Everywhere Jesus went He preachedthe Kingdom of God andhealedthesick.
Astheyjourney to Jerusalem, Jesus warned His disciplesthatthetime is comefor Him to die, butafter three days He would riseagain.
So, as theycame near Jerusalem, Jesus told two of His disciples to go into a nearby villageandbring a donkey that would be waitingthere. Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. Crowds of peoplespread their coats on theground in front of Him. Somewavedbranches of palm trees, a sign of victory. Thepeopleshouted, Hosanna! Blessed is theonewhocomes in thename of the Lord.
In Luke 9:23 Jesus gives us a preview of what it means to follow Him. “… If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and pick up his cross daily and follow me”.
Although taking up your cross involves denying self, the main focus is about following Christ. The cross or burden we carry has to do with the choices we make with our will, the responses we have in our actions, and the attitude we carry in our hearts.
Our cross means that we are putting to death every decision, every response, and every attitude in our life that is not consistent with the love of Jesus Christ.
Father in heaven, I surrender all to You. Remove the veil that clouds my view. Help me to see more clearly your purpose for me. Guide my steps and take full control of my life. Lord, I am aware that I am nothing without You. Still, I yearn to be something–, not in this world, Lord, but in your Kingdom. I surrender all to you.
